Just Talk to It — No Hardware Needed

Don't have an OBD adapter? Don't want one? You don't need it.

Open Wrench on your phone and describe what's happening:

"My 2019 Honda Civic makes a grinding noise when I brake"

"Check engine light came on, car feels sluggish"

"What does code P0420 mean on my Camry?"

The AI asks follow-up questions, cross-references your vehicle's known issues, and gives you a plain-English diagnosis with next steps.

Perfect for:

  • Everyday car owners
  • Understanding what your shop told you
  • Quick code lookups
  • Deciding if it's safe to drive
  • Getting repair cost estimates

Connect an OBD Adapter — Full Power

Add a $15-50 Bluetooth OBD adapter and unlock everything.

For OBD Scanning

Want the Full Experience? Here's What You Need.

Three things. That's it.

📱

Any Phone or Tablet

iPhone, iPad, Android, Samsung tablet — if it has a browser, it runs Wrench. No app store download needed. It's a web app that works like a native app.

🔌

A Bluetooth OBD-II Adapter ($15-50)

Plugs into the port under your dash (every car since 1996 has one). We recommend the OBDLink MX+ ($100 for enhanced data) or any cheap ELM327 adapter ($15-25) to get started.

🚗

Any Vehicle 1996 or Newer

OBD-II is standard on every car, truck, and SUV sold in the US since 1996. Wrench works with all of them — domestic, import, gas, diesel, hybrid.

Setup Process

Connect in 3 Steps

Simple setup that works every time.

1

Plug In

Plug your Bluetooth OBD adapter into the OBD-II port under the dash. It's usually below the steering wheel on the driver's side. The adapter powers on automatically from the car's battery.

💡 OBD port location: driver side, under dash
Usually near the parking brake or left knee panel
2

Open Wrench & Connect

Open wrenchtech.ai on your phone or tablet. Tap 'Connect' — your adapter shows up in the Bluetooth list. Tap it. Done. You're connected.

Vehicle: 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500
VIN: 1GCUYDED5KZ123456
Protocol: CAN 11-bit 500kbps
3

Start Diagnosing

That's it. Wrench scans all 8 modules automatically, reads every code, and the AI is ready to help you figure out what's wrong. Talk to it, type to it, or just let it watch your live data.

AI Diagnosis Process

What the AI Actually Does

A walkthrough of the complete diagnosis flow.

1

Full Module Scan

Wrench talks to every computer in the vehicle — not just the engine. PCM, Transmission, ABS, Airbags, Body Control, HVAC, TPMS, Instrument Cluster. Finds every stored and pending code.

2

AI Explains the Codes

Not just "P0171 — System Too Lean." Wrench tells you WHAT it means, HOW serious it is, WHETHER it's safe to drive, and WHAT usually fixes it based on your specific vehicle.

3

Live Data Analysis

This is where Wrench is different from every other scanner. The AI watches your live sensor data in real-time and spots the patterns that point to the real problem — not just the code, but the cause.

4

Confidence Levels

Wrench doesn't guess. It tells you how confident it is: POSSIBLE (needs more data) → LIKELY (strong evidence) → CONFIRMED (multiple data points agree). No premature parts recommendations. No shotgun diagnostics.

5

Voice & Photo Support

Greasy hands? Talk to it. Have a scan tool screen you want analyzed? Take a photo. Wrench understands both.

FAQ

Common Questions

Everything you need to know to get started.

Does it work on my car?
If it's a 1996 or newer car, truck, or SUV sold in the US — yes. OBD-II is universal.
Do I need internet?
Yes, for the AI diagnosis features. The Bluetooth connection to your car is local, but the AI analysis happens in the cloud. Most shops and homes have WiFi. Your phone's cellular data works too.
Which OBD adapter should I buy?
Any Bluetooth ELM327 adapter works for basic scanning ($15-25 on Amazon). For enhanced manufacturer-specific data, we recommend the OBDLink MX+ ($100). We're also testing the Vgate vLinker MC+ for iPhone users.
Is my data private?
Your vehicle data stays in your account. We don't sell data, share it with insurance companies, or use it for anything other than helping you diagnose your car.
Can I use it at my shop?
Absolutely. The Shop plan ($39.99/mo) supports up to 5 technicians. Each tech gets their own login and diagnostic history.
What makes this different from a $30 code reader?
A code reader tells you the code. Wrench tells you what's actually wrong and why. It watches your live data, cross-references TSBs and complaints, and thinks through the diagnosis like an experienced technician.
